Dishonored Developer Arkane Working On First Game Since Microsoft Buyout

Co-Creator of Dishonored, Harvey Smith, is working on a new game at Arkane Studios alongside members of the Prey development team.

Arkane Studios, developers of the Dishonored series, are apparently work on its first new game since it was bought out by Microsoft. Back in September, it was revealed that Arkane was hiring for a new AAA project, but nothing else was reported for quite some time.

That news came out within 24 hours of reports that Microsoft had purchased Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, who also owned id Software and Arkane Studios, among others. It has been over three years since the last entry in the Dishonored series, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Since 2017, Arkane has been busy working on the Wolfenstein series, as well as timed PlayStation 5 exclusive, Deathloop.

This morning, in an interview translated by IGNDishonored‘s co-creator Harvey Smith told Vandal that he was working with members of both the Dishonored and Prey teams on a new, unannounced game. In the interview, Smith was asked, “You worked Dishonored at Arkane Lyon and now you’re at Arkane Austin, so you’re not working [on] Deathloop,” to which Smith then replied, “I’m not on Deathloop , I’m on something else, working with the guys who made Dishonored and Prey.

IGN notes that, “Smith makes no further mention of what that project could be, nor how far away it might be,” but later adds that, “it will be part of the new era of Microsoft-owned Bethesda games, meaning it would almost certainly launch into Game Pass and, perhaps, even be an Xbox exclusive.” While Arkane Studios’ track record is made up almost exclusively of single-player, RPG and/or FPS titles, the aforementioned job listing from September made mention of, “expertise with network and online features,” and repeatedly emphasized that point.

This points to this unannounced game perhaps having a live service model, instead of a dedicated single-player experience. However, it sounds like development of this new title is still in the very early stages, so it unlikely more will be reported for quite a while. At the moment, Arkane Studios is focusing on the upcoming release of Deathloop, so any news pertaining to a new Dishonored or any other IP will be a ways out.
