Genshin Impact developer miHoYo says that it will not be issuing a buff to Zhongli, despite complaints from players that he underperforms.
Genshin Impact developer miHoYo has responded to the issues of a new playable character in the game, Zhongli, and said that he will not be receiving a buff in any upcoming updates. Despite the overwhelming response from players asking for a change to the character and the issues that he has been having, the character will remain the same, and the company tried to talk about their reasons as to why they’re doing nothing.
Genshin Impact, the popular open-world game, has been out for some time now, and one of the characters mentioned above, Zhongli, has been a banner character that was introduced into the game in the middle of November. But many players have been feeling let down as even though he is a five-star character and has the possibility to be very good, his moves and attacks haven’t been dealing as much damage as they should. In order to get new characters, players need to spend a lot of time upgrading and getting the right amount of resources to spend them, or using real-life money to buy the chances of getting him (as he is rare), so many feel that their time has gone to waste on Zhongli.

MiHoYo recently announced on its forum that it will not be doing anything to the character, despite the fan outcry. The developer wrote that while it has heard the feedback from players regarding the issues with the character and have been analyzing how people use him, it will not be providing any new support at this time. MiHoYo says it will continue to analyze the situation ongoing with how players use his character.
The company would also write that while people have used Zhongli for attacks, he is mainly used as a support character, as a way to “protect other characters” in the party, which is why his abilities are so shield-focused, and he has the ability to control the enemy, not to attack them. MiHoYo also said that from a review of the game data, they said that Zhongli has been an effective member of players’ parties so far. But while miHoYo did defend the character, it also said that it is still in a “deep analysis” with Zhongli, and ask that people continue to be patient in the meantime so they can make the proper assessments.
Many of the comments in the forum post are a mix of disappointment and sadness. Some say that even as a support character, he is still underperforming, and some say he is outperformed by 4-star characters. Whether the Genshin Impact developer will listen to the continued anger that is coming from the community is unknown, but it seems that players will have to put up with using his character as intended for now.
