Early reactions to Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman are here, and it sounds like the DCEU sequel was worth the wait.
The early reactions to Wonder Woman 1984 have arrived. Warner Bros. and DC Films experienced great success with the release of the first Wonder Woman in 2017. Audiences loved the movie and it made over $800 million worldwide, guaranteeing that a sequel would come. Patty Jenkins returns to direct Wonder Woman 1984, which will continue Diana Prince’s (Gal Gadot) adventures nearly forty years after the events of the first film. The sequel will see Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) mysteriously return from the dead and has Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) set as its villains.
Despite the overwhelming excitement for another Wonder Woman movie, fans have had to wait much longer than anticipated to see it. The movie had two release dates in 2019 before WB pushed Wonder Woman 1984 to June 2020. This decision was made so the sequel could potentially have as strong of legs at the box office as the original, but that all changed thanks to COVID-19. Wonder Woman 1984 was delayed three more times and will now release in theaters AND on HBO Max on Christmas Day.
With all of these delays, fans and critics alike have been waiting to see if Wonder Woman 1984 delivers. Now nearly three weeks from the film’s theatrical release internationally, the early reactions to Wonder Woman 1984 have arrived. Here’s what those who have seen the movie already are saying on Twitter:
Finally saw #WW84! It’s genuinely great, with lots of big, exciting moments, yet it’s all grounded in a personal story. Not only is it a solid sequel, but it’s actually an excellent replacement for Superman too. Plus, there are some neat surprises🎶 pic.twitter.com/yA7iMMeNF8

I think what surprised me most was that the message #WW84 leaves you with feels even more important to hear at the end of this year in a way @PattyJenks couldn’t have predicted when she made it. Also, it just is so exciting to have big, joyful, blockbuster movies coming out again

Yesterday I saw Wonder Woman 1984 at home & it was everything I needed & more. The movie is hugely ambitious, incredibly exciting, and full of much needed hope. It’s also very long, to a fault at times, but mostly it reminded me how wonderful a big blockbuster can make you feel. pic.twitter.com/6rYbHEzI7E

I’m so happy to report that #WW84 is an absolute blast from start to finish. An exceptional compliment to the first film, it’s stuffed w/ heart, hope, love, action, romance & humor. @PattyJenks, @GalGadot & team delivered one of DC’s best sequels. I was in tears when it ended. pic.twitter.com/ivPkBFmehd

Huge news: Wonder Woman 1984 is fantastic! The story is excellent & has a great, timely message; it packs in a ton of surprises; and amazing work is done with both Cheetah & Max Lord (Wiig & Pascal are both stellar). Get hyped, because it’s the real deal. #WonderWoman1984 #WW1984 pic.twitter.com/9UQLyxn3gx

#WW1984 tells us that our world deserves the kindness and empathy of a superhero like Wonder Woman, and in 2020, that feels like the most radical and necessary message of all.
Wonder Woman is the superhero we need AND the one we deserve. Pass it on.

Pedro Pascal is serving a ham feast, Kristen Wiig is magnetic as hell, and Gal Gadot and Chris Pine give us the kind of windswept classic Hollywood romance that I could watch forever
