10 Reality Stars Who Should Join The Race

The television reality genre is a wide and varied one. From competition series to game shows to “reality” television that aims to keep up with famous families, reality television really seems to be all-encompassing. As such, there have been myriad celebrities who have come about as a result of the medium, especially in the past twenty years.

Yet, The Amazing Race still remains the zenith of the genre. It combines the best of clashing personalities of reality stars with the thrilling competition of global activities. Because of how iconic The Amazing Race, it almost serves as a crowning achievement when the show manages to rope in some reality stars to take on their next challenge. These are the ones who should next join the Phil Keoghan-hosted fray.

10 Lisa Vanderpump

The reason why Lisa Vanderpump should join The Amazing Race is that it would complete an Infinity Gauntlet of reality shows for her. She has already appeared on reality programs like The Real Housewives, a general, fly-on-the-wall reality show, Vanderpump Rules, a food-centric reality series, and Dancing with the Stars, a competition program.

Competing on The Amazing Race is the natural next step. It’s like Theo Epstein breaking the Red Sox’s curse and then doing the same for the Cubs. It only makes sense for Vanderpump to run the reality gauntlet to its natural conclusion.

9 Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson’s reality stardom has shone brightly for two decades now. She first rose to prominence as the first winner of American Idol and now she is unquestionably one of the best judges on The Voice.

It would be equally delightful to see her try her hand at The Amazing Race. Not only would she immediately become the most famous contestant in the history of the show, but she’s also very funny. Her exacerbation at some of the tasks would be worth the endeavor all by itself.

8 Blake Lewis

American Idol season six finale

Speaking of American Idol contestants who would be awesome on The Amazing Race, it is time to resurrect the stardom of Blake Lewis. The singing competition series’ season six beat-boxer was well-known for his charming personality and willingness to try anything.

Why not try The Amazing Race, then? Lewis, like Clarkson, was always funny on Idol. He could even be paired up with Elliott Yamin, a season five finalist with whom Lewis has become good friends.

7 Scott Disick

Of all the potential Kardashian stars who could fit into The Amazing Race, Scott Disick has to be the top contender. CBS would probably want to lock down a Kim or a Kourtney for their series, but for pure entertainment value, Disick is the way to go.

He was always subtly sarcastic on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and he is essentially a star in his own right now. No matter who Disick paired with, he’d be a great source of wit and frustration.

6 Adam Richman

Man v. Food host

There are few better choices to star on The Amazing Race than people who seem worldly to begin with! This is definitely true of Adam Richman, the former host of Man v. Food, one of Travel Channel’s best reality shows ever.

In addition to a wide-ranging palate, Richman has been known to find communities across the globe as evidenced by his travel memoir. His love of culture would be a perfect marriage for The Amazing Race, which would deposit him in many of Earth’s most niche pockets.

5 Bethenny Frankel

Sometimes, the obvious contenders have to be included in the list, too. Bethenny Frankel is one of the prime examples of someone whose fame comes primarily from her dalliance with reality television. Likewise, she’d be a delight on The Amazing Race.

Beginning on The Apprentice, Frankel has since churned out her own programs, as well as dabbled with Shark Tank and The Real Housewives. Frankel is super smart, but also unafraid to lean into her strengths, making her a perfect match for the CBS competition show.

4 Alex Newell

Alex Newell may be best known for his career as a musician and starring turns on Glee and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. But it’s easy to forget that Newell got his start as a reality contestant on The Glee Project.

This was an Oxygen-based reality show that sought to cast a new actor for Glee based on thousands of audition tapes and spots on the reality program. With this understanding and sense of fun in place, Newell is a no-brainer for The Amazing Race. In fact, he might be too talented for it.

3 Nathan Fielder

Why would anyone want to have a season of The Amazing Race without a guy who graduated from one of Canada’s top business schools with really good grades? If Phil Keoghan is looking for reality stars, look no further than Nathan Fielder, the host of Nathan for You.

Considering how this Comedy Central reality show was built around innovative marketing ideas, Fielder might be particularly deft at devising some unique ways of attacking the global activities he’d be tasked with on The Amazing Race. Not to mention, he has a charismatic way with people.

2 Bindi Irwin

Crikey! It's the Irwins, Bindi Irwin and Robert Irwin

A lot of the reality stars listed above are most commonly associated with food shows or singing series. Bindi Irwin, however, is a reality star who is most aligned with animal and nature series. The star of Crikey! It’s the Irwins!, she is more than whip-smart and savvy enough for The Amazing Race.

Irwin is attuned to the natural world in a way most people can never hope to be. This attribute would be profoundly useful for her when globetrotting. Plus, she won Dancing with the Stars in 2015, showing that she has the championship gene within her.

1 Dave Chang

The Chef Show David Chang

Lastly, Dave Chang has to be recognized as someone who would fit The Amazing Race perfectly. Tragically, the world does not have Anthony Bourdain to hold up as someone who would crush it anymore. But Chang is clearly the heir apparent when it comes to reality stars who are cultured and well-traveled.

Not to mention, Chang just became the first celebrity to win a million dollars on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (for the charity, Southern Smoke Foundation), showing he has the smarts, too. The reality star from Top Chef and Ugly Delicious, Chang has already traveled the world, but The Amazing Race would be an excellent method for viewers to join him along the way.
