Jeremy Renner Hypes Kate Bishop’s Entry To The MCU

Jeremy Renner confirms that work on Hawkeye has begun with an image on the set of the upcoming Disney+ series centered on the Avengers’ marksman.

Jeremy Renner shares an image from Hawkeye’s set, confirming that filming has begun on the project. The founding Avenger is set to spearhead a Disney+ series, debuting a new version of the bow-and-arrow wielding hero in Kate Bishop. No specific release date has been announced, but work is already underway for the show.

Announced at Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel during San Diego Comic-Con 2019 alongside a slew of projects for MCU’s Phase 4, the Hawkeye series is expected to tackle Clint Barton’s backstory — something that hasn’t been explored in the franchise. It’s uncertain how Kate will be incorporated in the narrative, but the Hawkeye show is believed to be taking inspiration from Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye comic book run, which features both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop. Aside from the pair, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, formally introduced in Scarlett Johansson and Cate Shortland’s Black Widow movie, is also rumored to appear.

Now, after a series of indications that production for Hawkeye is in full swing, Renner took it upon himself to confirm the news himself with an image from the show’s set. Featuring his filming chair labeled Clint Barton, Renner also referenced Kate in his caption, writing, “Ms Bishop … we need you.” Check out the image below:

Not long before Renner’s image, a video of Hailee Steinfeld made the rounds online, further backing rumors that she has been cast to play Kate in the Hawkeye show. For the uninitiated, Kate is the daughter of a shady businessman who gets assaulted in the comics. After her traumatic experience, she trained herself to ensure that she’s not forced into a vulnerable state ever again. She assumes the Hawkeye mantle when Clint was presumed dead in print. Whether or not Marvel Studios will use this same story on the Disney+ project is unknown for now, but they tend to stick to their heroes’ origins, so the chances are that this is more or less how Kate becomes Hawkeye. In any case, considering that Renner and Steinfeld appear to be in the same location, it’s safe to say that they are filming scenes together.

It’s worth noting that Marvel Studios has remained tightlipped on Steinfeld’s casting and production starting for Hawkeye, but that doesn’t mean that both aren’t true. If anything, Kevin Feige and his team tend not to comment on these matters until there are a proper time and venue to make a big splash out of it. All that being said, official information about the show and the rest of the MCU’s Phase 4 and beyond slate may be coming soon, with Disney hosting an investor meeting around the second week of December 2020.
