GLOW’s Alison Brie Supports Movie To Finish Canceled Netflix Show’s Story

If there is ever going to be a movie to end the story of GLOW, series star Alison Brie appears to be completely ready to take part in it.

If there is ever going to be a movie to end the story of GLOW, series star Alison Brie appears to be completely ready to take part in it. Many storylines for the Netflix series were left without a conclusion after the show received a surprise cancellation following the streaming service’s previous decision to give the show a fourth season to wrap everything up. A movie may be the most effective way to give fans an ending they deserve.

GLOW was well on its way to a satisfying conclusion after Netflix renewed the series for a fourth and final season in September 2019. Much has changed in the world in the year since that renewal, however, with production shutdowns happening across the industry due to the coronavirus pandemic. With that serving as the critical factor, Netflix reversed their decision in October 2020, deciding to put a sudden end to GLOW 14 months after the release of its third season.

Still, there’s a desire to see the characters reach a fair ending and Alison Brie is good with that. In comments on The Fourth Wall podcast (via Playlist), the actress who played Ruth showed support for the idea of a film to end the series. Brie said that a “movie could tie everything up” and that it would be “a great way to wrap it up.” Brie also praised Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch for their writing and their devotion to the series. Brie’s full comment can be read below:

“I certainly think a [‘GLOW’] movie could tie everything up. Our creators, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, are incredible writers. And they’re so devoted to these characters that they created. I think a movie would be a great way to wrap it up. I’m a little pessimistic about it actually happening just in light of everything that’s gone on this year and how difficult it is to get anything back into production with COVID, and I’m also part of the ‘Community’ cast, who’s been trying to get a movie going for six years, so what I’m saying is don’t hold your breath because if it does happen, it might take a minute.”

Even though Brie supports the effort, however, she didn’t sound particularly optimistic a movie would ever happen, largely owing to the continued struggles of the entertainment industry during the coronavirus pandemic. She also made note of her previous series, Community, which has been rumored to be trying to get a movie off the ground for years now, with no real movement towards the goal. Brie concluded, “We’re lucky that we got to make three, to me, perfect seasons of a show. I love it so much and it will live on Netflix forever.”

While Brie is right to be pessimistic about the possibility of a wrap-up film, there’s clearly some desire on the parts of many to see a proper ending to GLOW. Marc Maron, another star of the show, has already made his case for a movie to end the series. Additionally, fans of the Netflix series remain angered by GLOW‘s cancellation a month after the news came down. If more people come out in support of a movie, Netflix could be convinced to reverse their decision, again, and give the cast of GLOW a little more time to put a bow on their wrestling careers.
