Kelly Dodd doesn’t think her antics and controversial viewpoints are to blame for the lower ratings on The Real Housewives of Orange County.
Kelly Dodd is shutting down claims that her online antics and controversial viewpoints are the reason there has been a drop in rantings for The Real Housewives of Orange County. This comes after Gina Kirschenheiter called out Kelly for turning fans away and having them boycott the show.
After getting married to her Fox News correspondent husband last month, Kelly’s honeymoon phase has been met with criticism from fans. She spent the year ruffling the feathers of her followers on social media by boasting about her often controversial viewpoints on the ongoing health pandemic. Earlier this year, she was criticized after she compared the coronavirus to the flu in an attempt to downplay the deadly illness. Over the summer, she shunned the pandemic once again by claiming it was over. While celebrating her bridal shower last month, Kelly offended her fans and fellow housewives when she shared a selfie of her sporting a black hat that read “Drunk Wives Matter.” She was called her out for racial insensitivity, as many felt the hat was a smack in the face towards the Black Lives Matter movement.

Although fans were already demanding her removal from the show last season, Kelly was brought back on for season 15. But reports have surfaced that there has been a dip in viewership, and rumors are swirling that producers are eyeing Kelly as the reason why fans have been tuning out. Kelly took to Instagram to address the claims and shut down any belief that she’s to blame for the lower ratings. “It’s all speculation and completely absurd,” Kelly said in a clip captured by the Real Housewives Franchise on Instagram. “They are saying that our ratings are down slightly due to my antics and that people are boycotting me. What? Fan boys?” See Kelly’s comments for yourself below:
The Bravo star went on to explain that she thinks the ratings only dropped “slightly” due to the recent election and their conflicting timeslot. “News is where people are watching [and] we are at a different time,” she declared. “We usually air in the summertime.” She then called out other Bravo shows RHOP, Southern Charm, and RHOSLC, and asked, “Why are those numbers way down compared to ours?” According to Kelly, the lower viewership “has nothing to do with me.” The proud conservative proceeded to highlight the increase in ratings for last week’s episode while calling out “liberal cancel culture.”
Just last week, Gina told fans that instead of boycotting the show, just fast-forward through Kelly’s scenes. The newlywed addressed those who take issue with her views. “This is America, in case you didn’t know, and I’m allowed to have my opinion. And if it doesn’t fit your narrative, then you’re going to try to cancel me.” Looks like Kelly is learning how real cancel culture is.
