Jenny & Sumit’s Arya Samaj Marriage Option Explained

Sumit & Jenny Slatten may already be married, in spite of his cold feet. Here’s how the Arya Samaj option could have helped the 90 Day Fiancé pair.

Fans of 90 Day Fiancé have started fearing that Sumit Singh and Jenny Slatten might actually never get married. While Sumit seems to be stalling the process, Jenny, on the other hand, was overjoyed upon meeting the matrimonial lawyer. Rishabh Rai suggested Jenny get married via the Arya Samaj which would be the fastest way for her to become Mrs. Sumit while also keeping his parents at bay! Let’s take a look at what exactly an Arya Samaj wedding ceremony is and how 90 Day Fiancé’s Jenny and Sumit can benefit from it.

It’s been nothing but a tragic tale of trying times for Jenny, 61, who’s been dreaming of marrying Sumit, 32 since 2012. The Palm Springs grandma may have been catfished by the Delhi boy pretending to be Michael Jones, but it’s commendable how Jenny’s still managed to stick by Sumit’s side after all this while. Not only did 90 Day Fiancé:The Other Way’s Sumit keep his marriage a secret from Jenny, but eight years later, when he’s finally free to tie the knot, he seems to have developed cold feet. But there’s nothing stopping Jenny from living her “desi” dream, especially after meeting the marriage lawyer who gave her much needed relief. Stuck between wanting to keep his parents happy and also loving and living with Jenny, Sumit seems to be facing his biggest reality TV dilemma ever. But if social media signs say something, the 90 Day Fiancé couple seems to have already become husband and wife. If you want to get married fast and without any complications, go and get married in the Arya Samaj mandir,” lawyer Rishabh was heard telling 90 Day Fiancé’s Sumit and Jenny. As per the AryaSamaj website, it is a bona fide Hindu-Vedic organization that was established by Swami Dayanand Saraswati in the year 1875 to get rid of the social evils of Hindu society. It is “dedicated to removing superstition, orthodoxy and social evils such as untouchability, etc., from society,” states the website which also talks about a Michigan-based Arya Pratinidhi Sabha America founded in 1991 that represents all Arya Samajs and Vedic Temples of North America.

A source Yours News explains that an Arya Samaj marriage is governed by the “Hindu Marriage Act of 1957” along with the provision of the “Special Marriage Act of 1954 and Arya Samaj Marriage Validation Act of 1937” in India. It thus gives people in India and all Indian nationals in foreign countries, an opportunity to curb the unfair or prejudicial factor of “discrimination” by marrying whomever they want irrespective of “social evils like caste, creed, race, or religion.” The marriage that the 90 Day Fiancé pair might opt for is also simple unlike the usual “big fat Indian weddings” and can be completed within two-three hours, in the presence of three eye-witnesses.

As mentioned by the lawyer on 90 Day Fiancé, Jenny can very much marry the Hindu Sumit without conversion, but “non-Hindu religions like Muslims, Christians, Parsis, or Jews must agree to convert themselves into Arya Samaj before the marriage.” Other conditions require the couple to be of legal age, i.e. 18 years for a girl and 21 years for a boy, and “neither from the couple have a living spouse at the time of marriage.”  Post this, the couple needs to submit a list of official documents, including proof of age, divorce, citizenship, address, etc, upon the approval of which, “Vedic” rituals such as “varmala, havan, kanyadaan, phere, saptapadi, sindoor daan, ashirvad” are carried out.

The final step would involve the 90 Day Fiancé pair to register their marriage online to get a “Marriage Certificate of the Government of India” as proof of their wedding. While the process does sound super easy, for Sumit to get his parents’ blessings seems like a task. However, considering he and Jenny now wear wedding rings, his parents should have certainly come around to accepting a daughter-in-law who’s even older than them. And the only way for fans to find out how this miracle happened, is to stay tuned to 90 Day Fiancé for more Sumit and Jenny shenanigans.
