Eternals actress Lauren Ridloff revealed that reshoots for the film have already taken place, which is standard procedure for Marvel films.
The Eternals actress Lauren Ridloff has confirmed that reshoots for the film have already taken place. Principal photography for the film took place in 2019 and early 2020. Filming was completed in February of this year by one of the film’s stars, Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians). Helmed by acclaimed indie director Chloe Zhao, The Eternals is one of the most anticipated films of MCU’s Phase 4. The film is one of two in the announced slate of films that centers around heroes not yet introduced to the franchise.
Along with Chan and Ridloff, the film features a robust slate of actors taking on the group of Celestials. Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Bryan Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, and Kit Harrington are all set to star in the film. While filming may have not been delayed because of the pandemic, The Eternals release has been. The film was originally set to hit theaters this month before being shifted around the release schedule and shaking up the order of Phase 4. It is currently set for release on November 5, 2021, after Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters.

Speaking with HeyUGuys, Ridloff talked about her BAFTA Breakthrough nomination. She also revealed she was in the midst of reshoots for The Eternals when she found out about the honor earlier this year. Reshoots are typical for Marvel. The studio uses them to ensure the film comes out just right and usually schedules them in advance.
I just actually finished my second day of shooting for a Marvel movie. We were doing reshoots actually, we were just finishing the second day of the reshoots and I was like ‘It’s a really good week, it was great to be back on set working, and it’s great to get this news.
The Eternals is integral to Phase 4 of the MCU. Not only is the film set to introduce an entirely new slate of heroes to the franchise, it is also primed to potentially introduce the next big bad of the MCU. It’s important that Marvel gets this film right. They’ve proven their ability to turn obscure characters into sensations with Guardians of the Galaxy, so the pressure is on to continue that trend with The Eternals. More rests on the success of this film, though. While Guardians was integral to the development of the MCU, they were introduced smack dab in the middle of the already successful franchise.
Luckily, reshoots do not portend failure in the MCU. Seeing as it is widely known that Marvel schedules reshoots ahead of time for when principal photography is completed, there is nothing to be worried about when it comes to the reshoots. The fact that The Eternals has faced multiple delays due to the pandemic is another indicator of the amount of time and care the studio is able to put into the film. With more room to fine tune special effects and get the plot just right, the delay could ultimately be seen as beneficial, even if fans aren’t too pleased with it. This is important, considering that the film will most likely be laying the groundwork for things to come. Hints and teasers about potential developments in the MCU are all but guaranteed to be included in the film.
