A Boba Fett show for Disney+ may film before The Mandalorian season 3, with his popularity increasing thanks to his season 2 appearance.
A Boba Fett show for Disney+ reportedly may film before The Mandalorian season 3. The latter series has been a smash hit for the relatively new streaming service. The Mandalorian season 2 began airing just last week, with viewers already responding positively to the new episodes. Season 2 promises to incorporate the larger Star Wars world into The Mandalorian, with characters like Ahsoka Tano set to appear. Though Ahsoka wasn’t in the first two episodes, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) showed up briefly in the premiere.
Boba Fett has long been a Star Wars character who seemed primed for a spinoff movie or show. However, the poor performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story made Disney and Lucasfilm understandably a little nervous about continuing work on a Boba Fett film. Luckily, though, thanks to Disney+ and the success of The Mandalorian, they now have a less risky avenue to explore spinoffs. Both Disney and Lucasfilm are taking advantage of this, working on an Obi-Wan Kenobi show, as well as one starring Diego Luna as his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character Cassian Andor. With The Mandalorian reintroducing Boba Fett to Star Wars fans, many believe a spinoff series of his own could be on the way.

Now, there’s a positive sign a Boba Fett show could happen sooner rather than later. This week, a Deadline report indicated The Mandalorian season 3 could begin filming this month. However, the report also mentioned “rumors that another Mandalorian-related project…possibly a Boba Fett miniseries, would film first, starting next week, with The Mandalorian Season 3 following after a monthlong break.“
There’s a lot to break down in the report, though the information should of course be taken with a grain of salt. Provided the Boba Fett show is indeed in the works and set to start filming soon, it could mean viewers see it on Disney+ within the next year. Additionally, if it does start shooting before The Mandalorian season 3, it could serve as a good way to tide fans over until that show returns. It’s also possible the potential Boba Fett show could film but not actually air before The Mandalorian season 3, though that’s less likely.
The categorization of the hypothetical show as a “miniseries” is also interesting. With The Mandalorian more open-ended, it makes sense Disney and Lucasfilm want some Star Wars shows to have more contained stories. Plus, since a Boba Fett movie was in the works at one time, a miniseries would be a good way to potentially keep the essential plot of that without watering it down too much. Though the report isn’t a guarantee the Boba Fett show is actually happening, it’s certainly a promising sign.
