Dororo 2019 is a new anime adaptation of the classic manga but where can it be seen online, and is it on Netflix, Hulu or Prime?
Where can anime series Dororo be seen online and is it available on Netflix, Hulu or Prime? Dororo started life as a manga series created by the late Osamu Tezuka, who has been dubbed the “God of Manga.” This was down to his insanely prolific output, which includes creating manga such as Astro Boy and Black Jack. Dororo itself is a blend of historical action and horror, and focuses on the title character – a young thief – and a ronin named Hyakkimaru, who is seeking revenge on a series of demons and his own father.
Hyakkimaru’s father made a pact with 48 demons that if they gave him power, they could take pieces of his child. This resulted in Hyakkimaru being born limbless, faceless and organless and being cast aside, but against all odds, the boy survived with the aid of prosthetics and magic. Dororo story sees Hyakkimaru hunt down and reclaim his missing body parts one by one by slaying the demons, while the young title thief joins him on his quest.

Dororo had a relatively short run in manga form, lasting from 1967 to 1969. It also received a 1969 anime series, which ran for 26 episodes. The series is noted for being darker than other mangas of its era, both in tone and its depiction of violence. It also delved into the morality of Hyakkimaru, who seemingly becomes more inhuman on his quest to restore his humanity. The manga received another adaptation in 2019 from animation studio MAPPA (Yuri On Ice), but where can it be seen online?
Dororo currently isn’t available to watch on platforms like Netflix or Hulu, but the entire series can be streamed on Amazon Prime with a subscription. This new take on the classic manga has received great reviews for its animation and action, in addition to fleshing out the characters and complexity of the source material. It seems streaming the series from Prime is currently the only way to view Dororo in the U.S.
Outside of the 2019 Dororo anime, the manga has received a couple of other notable adaptations. In 2004 there was a PS2 game based on Dororo dubbed Blood Will Tell, which was a hack ‘n’ slash action game in the vein of Onimusha. There was also a live-action Dororo movie released in 2007, which received solid reviews in its own right. The movie isn’t available on Netflix, Hulu or Prime either, though the DVD can be purchased from platforms like Amazon.
