The Mandalorian season 2 premiere ends with the revelation that Boba Fett is alive which also teases his potential connection to Tusken Raiders.
The Mandalorian season 2 premiere’s Boba Fett reveal also teased his potential connection to the Tusken Raiders. After months of rumors claiming that the classic Star Wars bounty hunter is making his return, the Disney+ series didn’t waste any time to confirm the news when the episode titled “Chapter 9: The Marshal” ended with a shot of Boba Fett played by Temuera Morrison in Tatooine.
Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) continues his quest to reunite Baby Yoda with his people following the Armorer officially making them a clan of two. Instead of looking directly for the Jedi, however, he figured it would be best to look for other Mandalorians who can help him with his current mission. This led him back to Tatooine where he was able to retrieve Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armor from Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) who apparently got it from Jawas. But, just as Din and Baby Yoda left Mos Pelgo, The Mandalorian revealed that Boba Fett has actually survived his Sarlacc pit.

As The Mandalorian season 2 premiere’s parting shot, Boba Fett’s appearance wasn’t long. Not much is known about what he’s gone through since he was last seen falling down the Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi. Specifics about how he survived that are still unknown, but The Mandalorian has provided clues that would explain it. While Boba Fett’s was only featured briefly, there are some interesting details to his overall look. He was notably carrying weapons, the Tusken Cycler and gaffi stick in particular, which could be teasing his potential connection to the Tusken Raiders.
Every time The Mandalorian goes to Tatooine, the Tusken Raiders are somehow incorporated into the episodes’ story. Back in season 1, episode 5 “The Gunslinger,” the show established that Din can communicate with the Tusken Raiders through sign language and not the primitive mindless creatures that they were depicted in the films. The Mandalorian season 2 furthered this by revealing that they’re also able to work with others as they collaborated with the people of Mos Pelgo to take down the Krayt Dragon.
There are a couple of ways that Boba could be linked to the Tusken Raiders. First, he might be quietly living among them. While Boba Fett’s clothes are different from what the Tusken Raiders are sporting, the local settlers always wear masks so he could get away with joining their pack if he has learned how to communicate with them as Din does. Second, there’s also the possibility that he exists separately from them but around the same area. Boba Fett may have acquired those Tusken Raider weapons after an encounter with the Tatooine indigenous people. Being self-reliant, he grabbed both the Tusken Cycler and gaffi stick and use them as his own weapons, especially since he no longer has his Mandalorian armor.
It’s uncertain if The Mandalorian season 2 will immediately jump on tackling Boba Fett’s story or they’re saving it for later episodes. Since Din is unaware of his existence at this point, it’s possible that Mando and Baby Yoda leave Tatooine to continue their own mission only to find themselves back on the classic Star Wars planet. Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that there’s more to Boba Fett’s story to come on the Disney+ show.
