Darth Maul actor who voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars animated series debunks rumors that he made a cameo in The Mandalorian season 2 premiere.
Sam Witwer, who voiced Darth Maul in a couple of Star Wars animated series, does not have a cameo in The Mandalorian season 2 premiere. Aside from brilliantly bringing the Dathomirian Zabrak in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, the actor is also known to be a devoted fan of the franchise who happens to have a deep knowledge of the lore. Because of this, there was excitement when rumors started swirling around that he appeared on the Disney+ show, but that’s not the case.
The Mandalorian season 2, episode 1 titled “The Marshal” saw Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Baby Yoda return to Tatooine as they look for other Mandalorians that could help them in their new mission — to reunite the Child with his people. Instead of visiting the known regions of the sand planet, however, the Jon Favreau-created series explored Mos Pelgo, a largely unexplored part of the classic Star Wars location. As the pair arrived, villagers watched them like a hawk, one of whom some believed was played by Witwer.

It turns out that this isn’t true. After Josh Moreno, the actor who actually played the character, came out on social media to reveal he was the one on The Mandalorian season 2 premiere, Witwer followed suit and backed it up. The actor points out that the Mos Pelgo village was blond, while he clearly has dark hair. Check out his tweet below:
I wish IGN would, ya know, do their due diligence and research that my hair isn’t blonde… But hey.

To be fair, there’s a bit of resemblance between Moreno and Witwer especially since The Mandalorian didn’t have a tight shot of the Mos Pelgo villager in question. Other than that, the show is also notorious for sneaking cameos, which include Anakin Skywalker voice actor Matt Lanter last season, so it was possible that Witwer could also follow suit. If anything, Witwer almost had a role in The Mandalorian season 1 as he was part of the shortlist of actors poised to have a part on the show’s debut year. Unfortunately, a good-natured misunderstanding between him and executive producer Dave Filoni led him to miss out on the gig.
While Witwer didn’t reveal what his supposed role was in The Mandalorian season 1, it’s safe to say that there will be genuine excitement for him to join the show at any capacity. Just because he didn’t play the Mos Pelgo villager in the season 2 premiere doesn’t mean that he will no longer be able to appear. Aside from portraying a different character, he could also very well return as Darth Maul via a flashback. Since the show is dealing with the Darksaber with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) current wielding it, retracing the unique weapon’s past might be part of the show’s narrative, and since Darth Maul once had it, he could somehow be tied into the ongoing story.
