Owners of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S have to deal with COD: Black Ops Cold War’s massive file size, taking up around 135 GB on each console.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s final install size has been revealed, and players are shocked to find how massive the game already is. Players who pre-order the game get special skins and will be able to pre-load the game before its official release. However, the player cannot play the game until it officially releases on November 13th.
Previous games in the Call of Duty franchise have been notorious for their abnormally large file sizes, making it difficult for players to even install the game due to the long wait and the excessive amount of disk space it takes. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was joked about for taking up more than 250 GB, which is enough to fill an entire SSD in some cases. However, this was largely due to the game forcing players to install both Warzone and Modern Warfare at the same time, rather than separately.

The official Call of Duty website announced the file size for the launch version of Black Ops Cold War, giving players on PC and current-gen consoles time to clear the space they need. What surprises people most is the PC version being only 35 GB for multiplayer, and 82 GB for the entire game. Though, the file size does ramp up to 125GB if the player is looking to play on ultra graphics.
While the PC file size is reasonable, on Playstation 5, the file size takes up to 133 GB. Similarly, the Xbox Series X|S. takes up 136 GB. The file sizes decrease for previous consoles though, with only 95 GB for Playstation 4 and 93 GB for Xbox One. People who are getting the game on the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will have to make sure they have enough space for the entire game. Given the recently revealed actual storage space for the console, that means that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War alone will take up a significant portion of each console’s SSD.
In comparison to Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War does manage to reduce the file size a significant amount. However, it still takes up a huge portion of an average player’s disk space. This is something that should be expected for a shooter game with realistic graphics, though. The file size, while still big, has made a huge improvement for a game built in with Multiplayer and Campaign, and the returning Zombies game mode.
