After spending so much time regaining her memories, Titans’ Kory (Anna Diop) will finally, properly become Starfire in the upcoming season 3.
Titans executive producer Greg Walker promises Kory (Anna Diop) will finally, properly become Starfire in season 3. Back in 2018, Titans became the first live-action series to premiere on the nascent streaming service DC Universe, offering a new take on the beloved Teen Titans. Though the series has endured its fair share of growing pains, Titans was a strong performer, thus granting it a second and a third season. When it comes to the upcoming season 3, Titans will switch to HBO Max following DC Universe’s shift away from producing shows.
Initially, Titans season 3 was slated to arrive this fall, but the coronavirus pandemic delayed the start of production. After months of waiting, filming finally got underway just last month, which is a major relief for fans. Season 3 is primed to feature some major arrivals, including iconic comics characters like Barbara Gordon and Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow. Additionally, Jason Todd (Curran Walters) will become Red Hood, and Kory’s villainous sister Blackfire (Damaris Lewis) has arrived on earth to track down Kory. It’s safe to say this won’t be a pleasant reunion.

While much of the buzz surrounding Titans season 3 has been focused on Red Hood’s impending debut, Kory fans have some exciting things ahead of them. TVLine reports season 3 is going to be a big one for Kory. According to Walker, the arrival of Blackfire will allow the show to dig deeper into Kory’s past, which will then lead to the evolution fans have waited for. Walker said, “The arrival of her sister/nemesis Blackfire launches Kory down a path where she uncovers both secrets about her past and clues to her destiny… all of which will lead to her true calling as Starfire. Plus, we have a few other surprises in store for hardcore Starfire fans this season.”
Titans’ first two seasons focused more on Dick Grayson’s (Brenton Thwaites) slow transition into becoming Nightwing, so fans might be pleased to hear another major character is getting her moment. Kory spent the first season trying to regain the memories she lost upon her arrival on Earth, meaning there hasn’t been as much exploration of her Tamaran heritage or her Starfire persona. Luckily, however, that looks to change going into Titans season 3.
One of the biggest criticisms leveled at Titans among fans was that it took too much time to get the team together and that it didn’t always give the same amount of screen time to all of its characters. Season 3 offers the opportunity to rectify those issues, provided Titans doesn’t spend too much time with its various newcomers. The tease about Kory’s season 3 storyline is particularly exciting, and it’ll surely be amazing to see her become Starfire after all this time. The only unfortunate thing is that fans will have to wait until next year to see it all happen.
